Alright people, what we have below is a new trailer for the upcoming “Middle-Earth: Shadow Of Mordor” is being developed by Monolith Productions. It’s an upcoming action RPG type game that is set in the Lord of the Rings universe. The game will be set between the events of The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings. It is set for release on PS3, PS4, PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox One in 2014, but no official release date has been confirmed yet.
So what do we know so far? Well in “Shadow of Mordor”, the players takes control of a Ranger called Talion who also has Wraith-type abilities. Now that in itself is pretty damn cool, to be playing as a Ranger and being able to call upon Wraith abilities is gonna be such a great asset in this game. The game will be open world so the player can journey all over middle earth, and can choose whether to do the main stories missions or get distracted in side quests similar to Skyrim.
In terms of the story the game follows the story of Talion whose family is killed by Sauron and his forces, leaving Talion for dead he is soon revived from his Wraith-type abilities and journeys to Mordor to seek his revenge against Sauron. The world of Mordor is a barren and empty wasteland, much similar to what we have seen in the films. In the story, the Rings of Power do play a part but it is it’s own story that is different to the Lord of the Rings story. Warner Bros. said that both stories will align and will most likely meet recognisable characters from Lord of the Rings. An example being that the player will come across Gollum in the game, and during the story we will discover that Talion and Gollum have slight similarities.
What the game developers have done is introduce a new system called Nemesis, which is a system in which it remembers player’s interactions with certain types of characters that they will encounter during the game and it adjusts to the way that these certain characters will react to Talion as the game progresses. (It’s a really cool system and you can see it in the below in the new trailer) As with any RPG game, the player will be able to level up Talion’s abilities as a Ranger and as a Wraith through two different skill trees. So in turn, you’ll need to level up both to complete certain missions during the game, or maybe advance the Ranger side higher to infiltrate an enemy camp. It’s possibilities like this that are going to make this game unique to players.
I think the reason it’s going to be such an amazing game is the unique gameplay seems like a combination of Assassins Creed climbing and stealth gaming, the Batman Arkham series combat system, which personally is one of the best I’ve seen in a game, and combines it with the RPG element of games like the Elder Scrolls. So what you can expect is a very dynamic game that combines a lot of great elements, and delivers it into what is going to be the Lord of the Rings game fans have been waiting for since the PS2 games.
Below is the trailer with commentary on the game, and it shows some of the gameplay with use of the Nemesis system. It shows off some of Talion’s Wraiths abilities that allow the player to instantly zoom towards and enemy and take him down, if the player can master the use of this skill then it will be a valued ability when hunting down an Orc captain or spy. We can’t stress enough for how stoked we are for this game!
